What is with this common core crop they are teaching or kids in school? In 5th grade my 14 year old son got straight f's on his report cards they still sent him on to the 6th. In 6th he was doing just as bad till we pulled him from public school and put him in k12 there for the most part he did well except his math. The answers that should have been right showed as wrong. Not teaching him to cheat just trying to figure it out so I could teach him how to do it I did a few of his problem and they still showed as wrong even though I knew my answers were right. My oldest son couldn't even figure it out he got the same answers I did.it was frustrating.so in 7th grade we put him back in public school where he went back to straight f's again we even got him set up with an IEP. That didn't help. Yet they still pushed him on to 8th grade. This year we ate in a different state I had hoped a new state with a better school system for him would do him some good and for the most part it has his grades are up this year no f's but not because he's away from common core. Here he's less stressed and had for the most part a better set of teachers.....for the most part, but I'll get back to that. This year we was the year to decide how we would approach the high school situation.after long discussions on the matter hee decided when he goes to 9th grade he wants to do culinary in a magnet program rather than going to a basic public school.so I went to the school board and turned in his application and we should find out this month if he gets accepted, how ever his grades had to be maintained at a c average for him to even qualify. Sooooo much for that..and that brings me back to the for the most part comment. His teachers all know and it is written in his IEP that we do not have internet in our home due to lack of funds and that he needs extra time in class to work on it.sometimes he can get the net to work at the laundry mat but for the most part even that's down.he came home last week with a ton of homework and got in trouble because he didn't get it done on time.after tons of screaming and crying I got him to tell me what was going on in class.his math teacher told the entire class that he didn't pass or fail and that he was done trying to teach them. I also found out that another child on his bus had hit him and no-one had done a thing about it...I was livid.the next morning I got up and took him to school myself I even called for a police officer to press charges.the officer refused and the vice principal moved my son's class around with only half a semester of school left...the vp didn't do anything to the monster bullying my son either he just said the boy that did it was annoying but he was just being a boy..I told him what the teacher said he said he had already been told by other parents...now here it is a couple weeks later and he's Damn near failing math again so I sent a letter to the teacher re-explaining the internet issue and how his iep is worded he sent back a note written on the one I sent saying that he gives him plenty of time in his class to get it done that my son doesn't manage his time. I asked my son what was going on because at this point I believe nothing the teacher is telling me apparently he had gone from saying he does not care if they pass our fail to he doesn't care if they pass our fail or get hit by a bus and the reason my son's time isn't managed well is because he doesn't understand it and when he asks for help the teacher either tells him to figure it out, tells him he's done trying to teach them, or just out right ignores him. I told my son don't worry I would make a trip to school the next day...This morning when I got up he asked me to sign the more I sent to the teacher and he sent back because the teacher wanted prof he gave it to me...like my son is the one that can't be trusted in this situation oh that pissed me off..I told him don't worry about it and that I would deal with it and that I was taking him to school today. 2 hours later I was speaking to the principals Secretary because the principal was out sick she said she would call me when he contacted her and she told him what was going on to tell me what he said..that was at 915 this morning it's now 430pm and I've still gotten no call.
