So I finally had the meeting with the principal about my son's teacher..that didn't do us any good. All the principal wanted to do was make excuses about how the teachers are frustrated with this common core crap. Is that really a good excuse for these teachers to take their frustrations out on our children. I think not! I was able to find out that my son does not have to do the upcoming state testing and that we are not the only parents choosing to opt-out our children from the tests this year. I also found out today that this week we should be getting letters from the school board letting us know if our children got accepted into the magnet program here. I really hope they do. For my son the culinary program he applied for is the best chance he's got. Regular college is just not going to work for him. A vocational school is the right choice for him. As for my daughter who will be going into kindergarten this coming school year, she is very imaginative and loves to dance and sing. So for her we applied for a performing arts program so that she isn't being turned into the zombie like the rest of the students in our school district. Kids should be allowed to be kids. The government should not have the right to control how these students are being taught. They should understand that no child is the same, learns the same, or thinks the same. Our children should have the right to develop in their own way. As parents we try to raise our children to be themselves, not to follow the in crowd because it's cool and to do the right thing for them. With this common core crap the way we choose to raise our children is being undermined because the government wants all of our children to think the same way. I can not be the only parent that feels this way. I don't know about any of you but for me I don't learn like most people I can't just read a manual and understand how to do it.I need someone to walk me through it as I do it myself. It's like a map..I can't read one to save my life but if I have driven somewhere once I can get there again months or even years down the road without direction. My son learns the same way whereas my daughter is highly analytical.
Thanks for taking the time to read my rants. Please feel free to give your opinions.
